Presentation & Rendering Improvements

Your presentations help sell your work, and you'll be sold on VectorWorks Machine Design 2008 when you can see what you can do with the amazing enhancements to the program's presentation capabilities.

Unlimited Color Choices
VectorWorks Machine Design 2008 offers unrestricted access to a world of color. The completely redesigned color palette menu manages and organizes unlimited color choices. In addition to the standard operating system color pickers, you can create custom color palettes or select from color palettes included with VectorWorks. Enhanced color support also preserves the colors in all content imported into a VectorWorks document.

Object-based Opacity on Macintosh and Windows
With object opacity, you can easily adjust the transparency of individual 2D objects with the Attributes palette, or by using class attributes. Class overrides are also supported in viewports.

Layer Opacity and Anti-aliasing on Windows
Like Macintosh users, Windows users can now apply opacity to layers and also select to use anti-aliasing, which smoothes out jagged edges on diagonal and curved objects for a better on-screen display.

Improved Hidden-line Rendering Performance
Under-the-hood improvements have decreased hidden-line rendering time, on both design layers and viewports, by as much as 50 percent. Hidden-line renderings are also more memory-efficient, so files with cached viewports can be substantially smaller. And when rendering in dashed-hidden-line mode, dashed lines follow the perimeter of curved objects.

Interactive OpenGL Shadows
You can now cast shadows in OpenGL renderings. Shadows move in real-time as the position of the light changes-which is great for shadow studies.

OpenGL Backgrounds
You can now show backgrounds when rendering scenes in OpenGL, which means you can quickly show projects in the context of their site and have additional presentation options in OpenGL.

New OpenGL Draw Edges Option
This new option allows you to view the outer edges of objects in an OpenGL rendering in the same way as in a hidden-line rendering. This makes objects appear more clearly defined by displaying the edges of all objects, including curved surfaces such as cylinders.

Final Gather Rendering
Support for final gather rendering allows you to better represent indirect lighting effects and produce more efficient, higher-quality renderings. Final gather can be used with Custom RenderWorks or combined with radiosity to increase rendering speed and quality. It removes triangular artifacts sometimes left after a Radiosity rendering. It allows you to use HDRI backgrounds for interior renderings. And, is multi-threaded so will take advantages of all the processor a machine has.

New Bump Shaders for RenderWorks
RenderWorks includes many new bump shaders to allow you to add texture or relief to corresponding color shaders. For example, there's a new brick bonds bump shader to complement the brick bonds color shader. There's also a "from color"bump shader that looks to the current color shader to set the bump locations and heights. And, you'll find the new paver color and bump shader useful for creating rough tiling or stone paving textures.

Layered Rendering Effects in Viewports
You can now overlay rendering styles to create interesting presentations. For example, you can set a background to final-quality RenderWorks and set the foreground to sketch to create a colored rendering that looks hand rendered.

New Visualization Palette
The Visualization palette provides fast and easy access to all lights and cameras in a document. You can easily modify, select, create, duplicate, and delete lights and cameras across a document from this palette.

New Gray Layer and Class Print Option
Different printers print gray levels differently. A new option adjusts the level of gray for grayed layers and classes, to give you more control over your output.

New Wood Texture and Image Files from arcitex®
111 new high-quality wood materials from arcitex® will add another dimension to your drawings and models.

Support for 3Dconnexion SpaceNavigator™ Support
The SpaceNavigator is a new 3D mouse that provides a powerful way to navigate around your model. With it, you can simultaneously pan, zoom, fly around, and walk through your models. Vary the amount of pressure on the SpaceNavigator to speed up or slow down.
